Dear Potential Customer,

We would like to thank you for allowing us to bid your asphalt needs. We understand making these kind of decisions can sometimes be difficult because of the options, pricing and availability. Affordable Asphalt would like to take this opportunity to assist you in choosing the right contractor for you. And remember, the old saying goes, “You get what you pay for.”

We have made a list for you to consider when making your decision:

ABOUT THE CONTRACTOR
-Is the contractor a member of any associations that will hold them accountable for quality of work?
Quality contractors usually understand the importance of being a member of local associations, such as the Better Business Bureau or a local chamber office. Being a member of the BBB gives you, the consumer, another great way to investigate the company before you invest in them.

-What kind of reputation does the contractor have?
It’s a good idea to check into the contractor you are considering. You could ask neighbors, friends, family and/or work associates to see if they have used the contractor, good/bad or indifferent.

-Ask for references or even ask to look at some of their work done in the past.
When making a big decision such as paving, resurfacing or maintaining your asphalt, sometimes it can be costly. You work hard for your money, and you want to be certain you get the best quality job for your money. Be sure to look at some of the contractors past work or ask for references to ensure the best job available to you.

ABOUT THE CONTRACT / ESTIMATE
-What thickness was quoted on the estimate if it is a paving or resurfacing?
Typically, on residential driveways and most commercial work contractors will quote 1.5” of leveling (base) course asphalt and 1.5” wearing (top) course asphalt for a total average thickness of 3”. Although thickness does vary, the average thickness is 3” for paving and 1.5” to 2” when resurfacing asphalt. Thickness is a key factor in longevity so be sure you are getting what you pay for!

-What kind of material is being used?
There are several grades of material and mix designs to choose from. If there is any question, never hesitate to ask the contractor you are considering awarding the contract to. Specifications sheets on material can be provided in some cases.

-Is the estimate clear on EXACTLY what the contractor intends to complete?
Estimate should read clearly what the contractor intends to do for you. If there is any question, don’t ever hesitate to call and ask questions…never assume! Some contractors will even include a drawing for visual reference for your convenience.

-Is there a warranty on the work performed?
Always ask if there is a warranty on the work, what the warranty covers and how long the warranty is good for.
